I question considering the state Boeing are in right now, why you would trust them to provide a vehicle that is faultless on trip 1. Surely a back up would have always been a sensible option.
but it makes me feel like I'm supporting Elon and Trump.
Then I think I should prioritize lives over political divisions.
But then I heard the astronauts say they're not 'stranded' and that they're happy to be there.
> “That’s been the narrative from day one: stranded, abandoned, stuck – and I get it. We both get it,” Wilmore told CNN last month. “But that is, again, not what our human spaceflight programme is about. We don’t feel abandoned, we don’t feel stuck, we don’t feel stranded.”

The astronauts may genuinely enjoy being there for 10 months instead of the planned 8 days but the comedy of errors with the Starliner makes it a debacle no matter what "the narrative" is.
There are always two space craft docked to the station that could be used to evacuate in an emergency, and be sure that on top of that both the Russians and Space X could launch very very quickly schould it be a matter of an emerency rescue........if of course the ones authorising the press releases were instructed to stay home for the duration
I can’t imagine the horror of a planned short trip unexpectedly becoming such a long affair and then helplessly seeing the horrible result of the 2025 election from above the planet.

Please don't turn HackerNews into this kind of a site. There are enough of those on the internet, and only one HackerNews.
Astronauts in mission can vote. They are exactly as helpless as any usians.
